<div>For everyone that has been following Luna’s story, Marc and I wanted to give you all an update.

</div>

<div>On 8/7/25, Luna was diagnosed with IMHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia).
Treatment involves blood transfusions to help stabilize the dog and immunosuppressive drugs to control the immune system's attack on red blood cells.
Much like humans having the chance of not taking to another humans organ(s)/blood transplant, same thing applies to dogs. They may not take to another. And the transfusions and medication do not guarantee her to have a normal life.

<div><span>After rushing Luna to the Emergency 24/7 Vet clinic, they quickly got her hooked up to machines preparing her for the transfusion.</span><span> A few minutes of her being assessed, we had a sit down with the Dr to discuss further details and what we’d like to do incase of emergency. We did state we’d want them to perform CPR if it came to it.</span>

<div><span>However, with how quickly she was declining, they did ask us to be open minded to the possibility of having to reconsider. 
While the transfusion was taking, she was still losing lots of blood through her urine. 
Luna’s symptoms continued to worsen, she was becoming unresponsive and started to have seizures. </span>

</div>

<div><span>Less than 18hrs after being diagnosed, we had to make one of the hardest decisions ever. The Dr said her body was shutting down and it would be best to euthanize. 
We were reassured that we did everything we could have. </span>

</div>

<div><span>The exact cause of IMHA is often unknown (idiopathic), infections, tumors, and certain medications can trigger it.
It was not certain that this happened because of her breed or DNA. </span><span>The vets said it was not uncommon, but very rare in her case for how young she was.</span>

<div><span>Luna had a 70% chance of making it. 
We wanted to be optimistic and hope for the best. Do whatever she needed despite the cost of everything. Yet we were told she would have lived a very hard life, stuck on medication, lots of follow up appointments, unable to do normal dog things. </span><span>Luna passed Friday 8/8/25 around 5am. </span>

<div><span>Luna was our first dog we got together after buying a house. She was a house warming gift to ourselves. One we didn’t know we needed. She was our baby, our princess, one of the best dogs we could’ve ever asked for. </span>

<div>Hi, this is Luna our 2yr old Golden-doodle. She’ll be 3 the end of this month. 



</div>



<div>This morning I noticed she was very off from her normal happy self. She seemed very lethargic, her breathing was labored, and she was stumbling her way around the house. We checked her gums and noticed they were a very pale pink. Minutes later they were white. We rushed her to the vet to get a diagnosis of what might be wrong. They ran lots of tests on her including bloodwork and X-rays. She had to be medicated with steroids and a catheter was put in to make sure she was getting enough fluids.

<div>After a few hours, Luna was diagnosed with IMHA (Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia). It is an autoimmune disease where the dog's immune system attacks and destroys its own red blood cells.

<div>An average dog’s red blood cell count ranges from 30%-40%. Luna’s started at 18% and dropped down to 14%, then dropped to 12% all within a few hours.

<div>8% is when their body shuts down completely and they pass.



</div>



<div>Luna’s condition only worsened hours after getting diagnosed. The Dr pushed us to rush her to an Emergency 24/7 Vet Clinic because she was on the verge of dying.

<div>As of right now, she is undergoing a blood transfusion. They’re hoping her body will not reject the transfusion so that she’s able to come back home with us.
