Help Me Keep My Kidney: Funding Essential Anti-Rejection Medication 

Hello everyone, 

My name is Patricia Machain, and I am reaching out to you with a truly urgent and life-saving request. I am a kidney transplant recipient, and the medication I need every day is the thin line between a healthy life and life-threatening organ rejection. 
 
My Story: A Second Chance at Life 
 
On September 29, 2019, I was blessed with a second chance at life when I received a kidney transplant. This gift freed me from dialysis and allowed me to live my life without having to be connected to a machine. I was able to go back to work as a preschool teacher and continue giving my love and care to my students who i deeply care for. I did dialysis for 13 years and nearly lost my life several times due to infections, peritonitis etc. I am so afraid to go back to that due to something i cannot control. My anti-rejection medications, also known as immunosuppressants, are the reason my body accepts my new kidney. They are non-negotiable—I must take them precisely as prescribed, or my body will begin to reject the organ. 
 
The Crisis: Losing Access to Life-Saving Drugs 

Recently, due to significant changes in my health care coverage due to the changes in the policies and the cut-down from this administration, I am facing a devastating crisis: I am at risk of losing affordable access to the specific immunosuppressant drugs that keep my kidney functioning. 

The cost of this essential medication is staggering. Without insurance coverage, a single month's supply of my anti-rejection medication costs $1,000. This is a cost I simply cannot bear on my own. If I cannot secure the medication, I face: 

* Organ Rejection: My body attacking the kidney, leading to organ failure. 

* Emergency Dialysis: Returning to a life tethered to a machine. 

* The Need for a Second Transplant: A dangerous, costly, and uncertain path. 

* The Worst-Case Scenario: A profound risk to my life. 

How Your Donation Will Help 

I am humbly asking for your help to raise $4,000 This goal is calculated to cover my medication for the next 6 months while I desperately work with my transplant team, social workers, and insurance providers to secure long-term coverage solutions. 
 
Every dollar raised will go directly and exclusively toward purchasing this critical medication. I also want to include that I work full time. My current job offers insurance but it is very expensive. After taxes and my insurance deduction I would have nothing left over. Which is why I'm asking for help. I appreciate each and everyone of you for taking the time to read and share.
