I’m raising funds on behalf of my friend Patrice, who urgently needs complex cervical spine surgery. Her surgeon, Dr. Ehsan Jazini, is affiliated with the Virginia Spine Institute and will perform the procedure at Reston Hospital Center. This surgery is necessary to relieve her severe pain, restore mobility, and prevent further permanent damage. 
 
The surgeon’s cost for Patrice’s cervical spine surgery is $32,000, and her insurance only covers $12,000 maximum — no more. The remaining $20,000 must be paid upfront or the surgery will be canceled, leaving her at very high risk of paralysis. This amount does not include anesthesia, physical therapy, or other medical necessities she will need after surgery. Patrice will also be out of work for at least 12 weeks during recovery, provided there are no post-op complications or rejection of the artificial discs after placement. 
 
Per her surgeon, there are three areas where Patrice’s spine is completely exposed with no protective fluid, making her dangerously susceptible to paralysis from even a minor fall, sudden movement, or accident — and even while asleep, she could awaken paralyzed. Every day that passes without this surgery increases the chance of irreversible damage, making immediate action critical to protect her mobility and quality of life. 
 
The surgery is already scheduled. Afterward, Patrice will face an extended recovery period, during which she will be unable to work and will require ongoing therapy. This recovery time and treatment will add significantly to the financial burden she is already facing.
