Parker Farms is a produce farm in Pollocksville, NC which is right outside of New Bern, NC. It has been in operation for decades and was passed down from father to son. The current owners are Ken & Michelle Parker. Because it's a produce farm, their livelihood comes from growing and selling vegetables and fruit. Due to Hurricane Florence, their entire farm is underwater including all their out buildings and their home. With the waters continuing to rise, their entire farm, house, farm equipment, and vehicles are a total loss.
I've known the Parkers for two years. In July of this year, we went on vacation with friends to see the Parkers. Ken Parker is actually the farmer that let me metal detect his fields. He plowed the field just for me in hopes that it would stir up something amazing. Since I can't help them physically due to that entire section of North Carolina being unreachable, I want to help them monetarily. Yes, they have insurance and yes, they will most likely receive something from FEMA due to Florence being a named storm. But! None of that will happen for weeks from now. Insurance companies can't pay out without first seeing the damage and that won't happen until after the water recedes.
Currently they are staying with friends of a friend. They will eventually have to move to a hotel as it will take weeks/months before they are able to move into a home of any kind. I want to help them with immediate expenses such as lodging, food, and bills in which the companies won't allow them a grace period to pay. Since the farm was their only income, they have ZERO income coming now or for the next several months.
