Hello, my name is Pan and I’m a 26 year old non-binary person. I’m asking for help to raise funds for gender-affirming surgery.
I have been out as non-binary for almost 10 years, and during that whole time, I have been thinking about and wanting top surgery (also known as a double mastectomy, or chest reconstruction surgery). Some of you may be aware that NHS waiting times for gender services are incredibly long, and increasing; there is an average wait of three to five years just to get a first appointment. After that initial appointment, there are still long waits between assessments and treatments. The Coronavirus pandemic has also massively affected these wait times. This is why I have decided to go privately.
I’ve never been very good at asking others for help - this is possibly why it has taken 10 years to start my medical transition. I’ve always sort of struggled with things by myself, but this is something that I cannot do alone. Surgery costs can come anywhere between £7000-£9000, and assessments with clinicians costing up to £300 alone. It is impossible for me to raise those costs by myself, and it is becoming increasingly impossible to live comfortably in my body. So I’m asking for your help, whatever you can spare I will appreciate more than you could ever know.
