WHO ARE WE?
We are Team ICARUS from the Georgia Institute of Technology. We are a group of highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students form the aerospace, computer science, and mechanical engineering schools. Since Lockheed Martin and The Drone Racing League’s (DRL) announcement of the 2019 AlphaPilot Innovation Challenge, our team has been preparing algorithms and ideas for the qualifying round. Of the over 420 teams that applied, we have been selected to be one of the nine teams that will compete in DRL’s new Artificial Intelligence Robotic Racing (AIRR) Circuit, the autonomous drone racing portion of the competition. As one of the nine teams, we will continue the efforts to design an AI framework capable of piloting autonomous racing drones through high-speed aerial courses without any GPS, data relay or human intervention, pushing the boundaries of unmanned flight.WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Drone racing is a futuristic sport that has grown substantially in recent years. Drones provide an ideal platform for developing new AI technologies, enabling engineers and coders to come together to solve some of the most important challenges, from Mars exploration missions to unmanned rescue assistance. Our goal is to use our algorithms to propel the advancement of flight and expand our understanding of automated vehicles.HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US?
We believe that all of the people on the team who are working so hard in the competition deserve a chance to watch their work compete in the competition. Unfortunately, we do not currently have the funding needed to send our members to the races. The Go Fund Me goal accounts for our estimated costs of travel to the races and other equipment to aid or progress.
There are three different ways that you can support our team. You can follow us on social media (links below), where we keep our viewers up to date on our progress throughout the competition. Helping to spread the word about our team and the competition would be amazing. You can also donate to us through this website to help provide funding for our travel and equipment.
Finally, if you would like to make a larger donation towards our team and be considered a sponsor, please contact us at the phone number below for more information.WHO IS HOSTING THE COMPETITION?
This competition is hosted by Lockheed Martin (LMC) and the Drone Racing League (DRL). LMC is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems and products.
DRL is a professional drone racing circuit for elite first-person view (FPV) pilots around the world. They are a technology, sports, and media company that creates thrilling 3D drone racing content.CONTACT US
