<div>Ivanna is 4 years old and the sweetest little girl full of laughter, love, and curiosity. She was born on February 9, 2022, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and for her first year of life, she was a healthy, happy baby reaching every milestone.

<div>But shortly after her first birthday, everything changed.

<div>Ivanna began suffering from severe and worsening symptoms that no child should ever experience—daily intense headaches, neck pain, difficulty swallowing, sleep apnea, feeding struggles, chronic coughing that often led to vomiting, loss of developmental and speech skills, and extreme fatigue that took away her energy to simply be a child.

<div>For years, we searched for answers while watching her slowly decline.
</div>

</div>
<div>After countless appointments and extensive MRI testing of her brain and spine, Ivanna was finally diagnosed with a severe Chiari Malformation Type I. Her cerebellar tonsils had descended approximately 2 centimeters into her spinal canal, causing dangerous crowding at the base of her brain. She also developed a syrinx, a fluid-filled cavity inside her spinal cord affecting both her neck and thoracic spine.

<div>Her neurosurgical team determined she urgently needed a posterior fossa decompression with duraplasty—major brain surgery to relieve pressure and restore the flow of cerebrospinal fluid.
</div>

<div>We were told the truth no parent is ever prepared to hear: without surgery, Ivanna was at risk of permanent neurological damage.
</div>

</div>
<div>On May 12, 2026, she underwent this important brain surgery.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are beyond grateful she made it through safely, but her journey is far from over. She is still in recovery and will require ongoing medical care, imaging, therapies, medications, and close monitoring for months and possibly years ahead.

<div>The emotional and financial burden has become overwhelming for our family.

<div>Ivanna tiene 4 años y es una niña dulce, alegre y llena de amor. Nació el 9 de febrero de 2022 en Rock Hill, Carolina del Sur, y durante su primer año de vida fue una bebé sana y feliz que alcanzaba cada una de sus etapas de desarrollo.

<div>Ivanna comenzó a sufrir síntomas cada vez más graves que ningún niño debería experimentar: fuertes dolores de cabeza diarios, dolor de cuello, dificultad para tragar, apnea del sueño, problemas para alimentarse, tos crónica que frecuentemente le provocaba vómitos, pérdida de habilidades del desarrollo y del lenguaje, además de un cansancio extremo que le robó la energía para simplemente disfrutar de su infancia.

<div>Durante años buscamos respuestas mientras veíamos cómo su condición empeoraba poco a poco.
</div>

<div>Después de innumerables citas médicas y estudios de resonancia magnética de su cerebro y columna vertebral, finalmente recibió un diagnóstico: una Malformación de Chiari Tipo I severa. Sus amígdalas cerebelosas habían descendido aproximadamente 2 centímetros dentro del canal espinal, causando una peligrosa compresión en la base de su cerebro. Además, desarrolló una siringomielia, una cavidad llena de líquido dentro de la médula espinal que afecta tanto la región cervical como la torácica.

<div>Su equipo de neurocirugía determinó que necesitaba con urgencia una cirugía de descompresión de fosa posterior con duraplastia, una cirugía cerebral mayor para aliviar la presión y restaurar el flujo normal del líquido cefalorraquídeo.

<div>Como padres, escuchamos una de las noticias más difíciles de nuestras vidas: sin la cirugía, Ivanna corría el riesgo de sufrir daño neurológico permanente.
</div>

<div>El 12 de mayo de 2026, Ivanna se sometió a esta importante cirugía cerebral.
</div>

<div>Gracias a Dios, la cirugía fue exitosa y estamos profundamente agradecidos de tenerla con nosotros. Sin embargo, su camino hacia la recuperación está lejos de terminar. Ivanna continúa en proceso de recuperación y necesitará atención médica continua, estudios de seguimiento, terapias, medicamentos y monitoreo constante durante los próximos meses e incluso años.
