<div><strong> Now begins a new chapter: recovery and healing. Cindy is doing her best to stay active each day, taking gentle steps forward, while also honoring her body’s need for rest. Her doctors have shared that it may take about a year before she starts feeling fully like herself again, and she’s giving herself grace through that process. </strong>

<div>Needing the Luck of the Irish! Cindy is going into reconstructive surgery on March 17th. Although she is very excited/nervous, this is just another co-pay :( We are trying to keep her in a happy mode, bit it's still hard for her not to think about money :( Please keep sending prayers her way.

<div>Since beginning her treatment, Cindy has shown exceptional bravery and resilience. We’re grateful to share that she has completed her chemotherapy! Today, January 23, 2025, marks the start of a new phase in her journey—treatment with Herceptin. This monoclonal antibody medication is specifically designed to target HER2-positive breast cancer, and she will receive it for one year, totaling around 18 cycles.

<div>Mom continues to face this battle with strength and grace. While the treatment has left her very weak, she is holding on and making progress. She’s sporting a much shorter hairstyle these days but, as always, she is radiantly beautiful. On her good days, she treasures time with family, and of course, her beloved Ellie-Grace.

<div>We are reaching out to you with a heavy heart to ask for your support during this incredibly challenging time for our family. Our mom, Cindy NicUilliam, a vibrant and active woman, has recently been diagnosed with two types of breast cancer (Stage 2), and we need your help.

<div><strong>Cindy's Journey</strong>

</div>

<div>It all started when she went out for a horse ride and accidentally fell, landing on her chest. Concerned about the bruising, she scheduled a doctor's appointment. What seemed like a routine check-up quickly turned into something far more serious. On May 14th, 2024, we received the devastating news that she has breast cancer. Further tests revealed that she has two types of breast cancer:

<div><strong>Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS)</strong> - An early stage of breast cancer affecting the cells lining the milk ducts.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div><strong>HER2-positive breast cancer </strong>- A more aggressive type that accounts for about 15-20% of breast cancer diagnoses.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div><strong>From the Doctor</strong>

</div>

<div>Right breast cancer, 2.3 cm high-grade invasive ductal carcinoma, ER/PR negative, HER2 3+, 0/3 lymph nodes, status postmastectomy. We will proceed with adjuvant chemotherapy. We will plan to treat with Taxotere, carboplatin, and Herceptin. We will not add Perjeta since her lymph nodes were negative. This will be given with curative intent. We reviewed potential side effects. We will schedule chemotherapy teaching and give additional drug information today. She will receive 6 cycles of TCH given every 3 weeks, then continue every 3-week Herceptin for a full year of dosing. Left ventricular function can be affected by Herceptin. We will do a MUGA scan baseline prior to starting treatment. Venous access will require us to place a port.

<div><strong>Current Situation</strong>

<div>Since the diagnosis, Cindy has made the difficult decision to take a leave from work to focus on her health. She has already undergone a biopsy and met with multiple doctors to discuss the next steps. On June 28th, we learned that she will need chemotherapy and a mastectomy.

<div>On July 31st, Cindy had a double mastectomy and is healing very well. On September 19th, she went back to the hospital to get her port put in, which she will wear for the next year. Her first chemotherapy treatment is scheduled for September 23rd. She will go in every three weeks for a year, undergoing 6 treatments of one kind of medicine and a year of another kind of medicine.
