Art joined the Army at age 17, and has spent the last 13 years of his life defending our country both in the military and as a private contractor. He has supported the various members his family through tumultuous times, both emotionally and financially.
In October 2016, while Art was deployed, he was hurt in an explosion (IED). After his stay in the ICU, he returned back to the states and decided to leave military contracting behind. It has been a rough road since that time: transitioning to a true civilian, finding a non-military job, and navigating the VA to tackle PTSD, depression & severe anxiety. It has been a tough year.
He has been living back near his family in Georgia, trying to return to civilian life. Anyone who knows Art would certainly say that he would gladly take the shirt off his back and walk through the desert for anyone. Unfortunately despite his efforts, Art hasn't caught a break since.
In May 2017 the engine in Art's truck blew up. The truck is currently at the dealership pending repairs while he still makes monthly loan payments . The engine repair is estimated to cost $3600 Plus $900 for the tow bill and open Repair order for removing the engine, a total of $4500 is needed. He has tried absolutely everything he can think of since May to come up with the money to replace the engine in his truck and still make payments on it, but it is still not enough .
Art is a very independent person who has supported himself and his family since he was 17 years old. He is the type of person to not want anyone to feel sorry for him or to be given anything he thinks he doesn't deserve.
But, if you ask me, I would tell you Art has definitely earned a break. As Art's friend, I started this GoFundMe to help him. I believe that the very least we can do is raise enough money for him to get the truck he's worked so hard to have, back in his driveway.
