<div>Along with millions of others, our immediate family in Sudan were displaced by the devastating war that began in April 2023. They’ve lost their homes and belongings and are now living as refugees in Egypt under extremely difficult conditions.

<div>We’re raising $16,975 to sponsor some of these family members (our uncle Bashir, his wife Nagat, and their three nearly-adult children, as well as our cousins Muntasir and Mohamed) through the Welcome Corps program, a government initiative that allows private citizens like us to sponsor refugees. This amount—$2,425 per refugee—will cover their essential needs like housing, food, and basic expenses in the U.S. until they can support themselves.

<div>While the program is currently suspended, we remain hopeful it will reopen soon. If it doesn’t, the funds will still be used to directly support our family’s basic living expenses as they remain refugees in Egypt. Any additional funds raised will go toward helping our extended family, who are also refugees in Alexandria, as they face similarly challenging circumstances.
