HELP OTIS GET TO KOREA & beat Mum's swim record!

My name is Otis Maguire. I am 14 years old, and I live in Bath.

I am incredibly fortunate to have been selected to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in August 2023. The Jamboree is a vast scout camp with more than 50,000 participants from all over the world. 3,240 young people from the UK will take part, and I am one of just three scouts selected to attend from Bath.

I have been involved in Scouting since joining Beavers when I was 5. I progressed through Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Young Leaders.

I am now thrilled to be part of Unit 75, a group of 36 scouts and explorers from the 'Avon' area who I will be travelling with to Korea, and who I have been meeting with once a month since the selection day (in October 2021) for group fundraising and team building.

The Jamboree is an excellent opportunity to make new friends and build a range of skills. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit a country and learn about a culture that is so different from mine.

However, this fantastic experience does come with a cost. I have to raise £2,900 to help pay for accommodation, transportation and site utilities.

I have committed to completing a 10-kilometre sponsored swim as part of my fundraising efforts. It will take place on 2nd October 2022 at the GLL Bath Sports and Leisure Centre. Many thanks to GLL and their Bath team for their support!

Well… I'm actually determined to swim 10,025 metres - to beat my Mum's record! When my Mum was my age, she successfully completed a 10k swim (as she rarely stops telling us!)... and I want to smash her record!
