Help Otis Fight for His Life
Donation protected
Our sweet boy Otis is currently fighting for his life at UF in Gainesville.
I noticed him having diarrhea in late September followed by decrease in appetite until he stopped eating completely so set up a vet appointment. Was sent home with a plethora of medicines after doing bloodwork and labs. Wasn't making improvements and hardly eating so on to another vet who sent us home with a different treatment plan.Poor Otis still wasn't responding so we decided to hospitalize him here locally and STILL no improvements. We brought him home during Hurricane Milton. The following day he was so lethargic and still having severe diarrhea and not eating so we rushed him to UF in Gainesville. He was admitted on Thursday October 10th.
He's underwent 2 blood transfusions for being severely anemic. Currently his red count is at 29% from 17%. He has an esophageal feeding tube placed where he is receiving nutrients, meds and supplements. He's being treated for Whipworm. His ultrasound showed severe inflammation in his colon and fecum. His white cells are 70,000 when he was admitted so he's fighting something bacterial perhaps??? We're still unsure. The Doctors are awaiting lab results and specific blood work. He's currently being monitored around the clock. In addition to his condition, during his first blood transfusion, a mishap happened where his catheter came out and the blood that was meant ro enter his vein started pooling under his skin. This is currently under investigation. So now he has a pretty severe wound they are treating as well.
Please keep our sweet boy in your thoughts and prayers. The amount we are asking for is to help cover his hospitalization which is actually being estimated around $5,000 and that is not including the 2 vet visits and prior hospitalization. We're willing to do whatever we can for our animals even if it means reaching out and asking for help.
Thank you & God Bless
