<div>Dit is Maeve, een lief en blij meisje van 2 jaar oud. Maeve heeft de metabole ziekte CDG, een hele zeldzame maar ook hele ernstige ziekte die een flinke impact heeft op haar lichaam. CDG staat voor congenitaal defect van de glycosilering en het betekent dat Maeve haar lichaam suikerketens niet goed aan eiwitketens kan binden waardoor haar cellen niet goed functioneren. Hierdoor kan Maeve zich niet goed ontwikkelen, ze heeft dan ook een flinke ontwikkelingsachterstand en kan hierdoor bijvoorbeeld nog niet goed zitten, staan of lopen. Maar ook lukt zelfstandig eten haar niet en kan ze nog geen woordjes praten. Ook ziet ze minder goed en heeft ze epilepsie. Allemaal veroorzaakt door een stofwisselingsziekte en we weten niet welke mijlpalen Maeve ooit zal gaan halen.

<div>In samenwerking met Perlara kunnen we een onderzoek starten om medicijnen te vinden voor onze lieve Maeve. Deze zullen haar waarschijnlijk niet kunnen genezen maar wel haar kwaliteit van leven aanzienlijk kunnen verbeteren en haar ontwikkeling bevorderen en klachten verminderen. Het zou zomaar het verschil tussen wel of niet leren lopen kunnen betekenen voor Maeve, of leren praten of eten.

<div>Dit onderzoek is noodzakelijk omdat er voor Maeve haar vorm van CDG nog geen behandeling mogelijk is. En daarom gaan we er zelf naar op zoek!
