We have set this up to raise funds for our wonderful friend Claire’s 15 year old son, Oli a student at Norton knatchbull school and a massive Chelsea supporter.
In July 2021, Oli was suddenly rushed to hospital as he had bad headaches and vision problems, prior to this he was seemingly fit and healthy and this came completely out of the blue. Scans were performed and a lump was discovered in his brain, it was big and right in the middle of his brain. Surgery had to be performed as a matter of urgency and after a painfully long 10 hours of surgery three quarters of the tumour had been successfully removed. Biopsies were done and it was discovered that his tumour was high grade, aggressive and incurable. All that could be done was to throw everything at it to try to reduce it and prevent it growing.
On the 6th September Oli started a 6 week course of daily chemo and radiotherapy. He is being so brave while going through something incredibly difficult.
Recently we have discovered that Germany, the USA and Japan have made major advances in Immunotherapy vaccines for brain tumours and cancer. These vaccines are designed to recognise specific proteins produced by cancer cells and are only administered when patients already have the condition. The idea is that these vaccines help the immune system to recognise and attack those particular cells preventing them from growing back.
Unfortunately, they are not yet available on the NHS or even in the UK. This advanced treatment is incredibly expensive and on top of treatment costs, would require the family to travel to Germany once a month for up to 2 years. It is a huge amount of money for one family to find. This is where we come in to the equation as well as all of you guys…..We are relying on the kindness and generosity of anyone reading this to donate and help Oli fight this cancer. We are so grateful for any donation you can make no matter how big or small. Not only will this money go towards saving the life of an amazing and very loved boy but it will also help to push forward cancer and brain tumour research for generations to come.
Kevin Duffield, Oli’s stepdad will be the beneficiary for the money we raise as he will be the one organising payment for Oli’s treatments and all money raised will be spent on the treatment for Oli as well as travelling expenses if necessary.
