Help Olga Help Displaced Families in Ukraine

Hi, my name is Marie
I work at the Open University and I am a researcher on migration and displacement. As part of my research, I visited Ukraine several times. I worked on a project called Active Citizens with British Council where I met Olga. We have kept in touch since, and when the war on Ukraine broke out on Feb 24 2022, we started chatting about how I and others in my networks could help her support internally displaced Ukrainians.

Olga has managed to secure premises and provide shelter for internally displaced Ukrainian families in her village in western Ukraine. She is hosting families passing through to the border, as well as families who are unwilling or unable to flee.

She has mobilised sterling local support from her fellow villagers to equip the premises, formerly offices, into homes. They are helping to supply and install washing machines, microwaves, showers, beds and tables, as well as to create play areas for children. Olga knows what it’s like to flee as a family with children. She made that journey after Russia invaded her home in Donetsk in 2014. You can read our blog interview here:

Olga is struggling to pay for the additional electricity costs. Please help Olga to help others and donate to this Go Fund Me. Every penny will go directly to paying electricity for families.
