<div><strong> Help Okanogan County Families Replace Hay Lost to the Fires</strong>

<div>The fires in Okanogan County have left local families dealing with devastating losses, including <strong>homes, barns, grazing land, hay and animal feed.</strong>
</div>

<div>We started reaching out to find out what people actually needed.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>So far, we have identified approximately 170 tons of hay lost </strong>in addition to displaced dogs, cats, horses and cattle.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Individual losses range from approximately 3 tons to 50 tons. With hay currently costing roughly $250–$300 per ton, the hay losses identified so far represent approximately<strong> $42,500–$51,000 in replacement cost alone, before transportation.</strong>
</div>

<div>And we are still hearing from affected families.
</div>

</div>
<div>Some people need hay <strong>right now</strong>. Others have enough to get through another week or two, but without replacement hay, their situation will quickly become critical.

<div> <strong>What We Are Doing</strong>

<div>We have already had some personal hay donated to help with immediate needs.
</div>

</div>
<div>Best Friends Animal Society is working to secure additional hay for our community, but resources are being stretched by fires throughout the region, including the Spokane area. We don't know yet how much outside assistance will ultimately be available or how quickly it will arrive.

<div><strong>We have animals here who cannot wait.</strong>

<div>Okanogan County Everything Dogs and Fur Ever Yours Animal Rescue are working locally to identify the need and get resources where they are needed most.

Knowing what has been lost helps us understand the size of the problem and plan for the families who may not need assistance today but will in the coming weeks.  <strong>It also helps us at the national level to secure outside resources to help.</strong>
