Hello to the kind-hearted people taking the time to read this. My name is Eric and I am really just a simple family-man (cats included), hailing from a small Appalachian town in Southwest Virginia. I am a store manager for a small store, and I love my job and the people I work with.

But to talk about myself isn’t why I’m here today. I’m going to try my best not to make this too emotional while I write this (because then I’ll start crying and there will be digital tear drops all over the page and no one wants to see that). I’m here because my baby girl Oakkey (dark grey) is in desperate need of surgery. As story of hard-times and struggles seem more and more frequent, it’s humbling and, frankly, mentally disjointing to turn to gofundme for medical assistance.

Oakkey, and her sister Artemis, are the prides of mine and my husband’s lives. The reality I’m sure majority of those in the LGBTQIA+ community will understand, that our pets are our children. Yes, I know they do not literally carry the same responsibilities and burdens of an actual (human) child. But for most of us, these furry critters are the closest things we’ll come to understanding what it’s like to experience a parent’s love. (I’m doing what I said I wasn’t going to do).

Anyway, the last few days Oakkey has been under immense pain and stress from what the vets are now thinking is pretty serious uterine infection and will most likely need a full hysterectomy (beyond the scope of a normal spay). Normally I try to have some kind of emergency expense money to break into the likelihood of something like this, but I just recently had to use most of what I had been saving over some expensive car trouble just in the last couple of weeks. This is all happening too close for me to be able to recuperate anywhere near enough for something this dire. I really fear what putting off something as serious as this will do to my baby, which is why I’m here today asking for anything, anyone can do to help. Even if you are not able to donate, sharing the message can be just as crucial.

I’m going to try and wrap this up here, as I know no one wants to read a novella of my love for my cat, but I do hope I’m able to convey just how much this means to me. Thank you, for making it here to the end and listening to my plea.

Oakkey y su hermana Artemis son el orgullo de mi vida y la de mi esposo. Estoy seguro de que la mayoría de la comunidad LGBTQIA+ comprenderá la realidad: nuestras mascotas son nuestros hijos. Normalmente intento tener algún dinero para gastos de emergencia para calcular la probabilidad de algo así, pero hace un par de semanas tuve que gastar casi todo lo que había estado ahorrando por un costoso problema con el coche. Todo esto está sucediendo demasiado cerca como para que pueda recuperarme lo suficiente para algo tan grave. Me preocupa mucho lo que posponer algo tan serio como esto le pueda pasar a mi bebé, por eso estoy aquí hoy pidiendo cualquier ayuda que puedan hacer. Incluso si no pueden donar, compartir el mensaje puede ser igual de crucial.
