30 augustus 2019 is mijn lieve Nova onder een auto terecht gekomen. Ik wilde haar uit de auto halen en ze springt zo de weg op. Ze werd geraakt, kwam op de grond terecht maar stond wel weer op en strompelde terug naar mij. Ik zag meteen overal bloed en een poot die op de verkeerde plek zat. De auto lag van de voorkant ook in de prak. Helemaal in shock heb ik haar naar de dichtstbijzijnde dierenkliniek geracet.
Daar hebben ze foto’s gemaakt en haar rechterachterpoot bleek inderdaad gebroken. Op 31 augustus is ze in een meer specialistische kliniek geopereerd met de hoop dat ze met deze operatie haar poot kan behouden.
Helaas bleek na een week volledige rust dat de wond die is ontstaan door de open botbreuk erg heftig is. Ik zal hier geen foto's plaatsen van de wond, maar mocht je deze willen zien mag je mij natuurlijk altijd benaderen. De huid heeft het niet gehouden en de botten liggen bloot. De vraag die op tafel ligt is; kan dit nog herstellen of moet haar poot geamputeerd worden?
11 september zijn we naar de kliniek geweest voor een afspraak bij de orthopeed die Nova heeft geopereerd. Haar bevindingen nadat ze de wond heeft bekeken en behandeld: Nova is jong, gezond en het lichaam kan wonderbaarlijke dingen. Ze ziet, ondanks dat alles er natuurlijk heftig uitziet, al wel een verbetering. Er ontstaat nieuw roze weefsel en bij de botten vormt zich ook al bindweefsel en littekenweefsel. Wil de wond kunnen genezen zullen de meeste pinnen eruit moeten, omdat de huid niet kan herstellen over iets lichaamsvreemds. Ze wil hier nog wel even mee wachten, omdat de pinnen die je nu ziet nog niet bij de wond zitten en ze wil op die manier de botten zo lang mogelijk de tijd geven om stevig te worden.
Wat is de prognose? Er is een reële kans dat dit kan herstellen. Ze schat dit in op 70%. Wat houdt het herstel in? Nova zal zich 2-3 maanden rustig moeten houden. Ze mag de poot korte momenten licht belasten, maar niet springen of rennen. Meedere keren per week moet het verband gewisseld geworden. Afhankelijk van het herstel van de huid zal er mogelijk een stuk huid getransplanteerd moeten worden om het gat te overbruggen.
In hoeverre kan Nova alles weer belasten en blijft ze er last van houden, als alles goed gaat? Dat kan helaas niet voorspeld worden. Er zit wel gevoel in de poot en de tenen, dit hebben we vandaag gezien. De doorbloeding is ook goed. Na 2-3 maanden rust zal de poot dunner zijn en heeft een verlies van kracht, net als bij mensen met een gebroken been. De kosten worden geschat op 4000 euro. Dit is inclusief consulten, de (dure) verbandwissels, nieuwe operatie voor het verwijderen van de pinnen, medicatie en een huidtransplantatie. Dit is natuurlijk een behoorlijk bedrag en daarom vraag ik om jullie hulp. Als we het niet proberen weet je niet of het een kans van slagen heeft, maar ik wil graag samen met haar dit intensieve traject aangaan en zal jullie regelmatig via updates op de hoogte houden. Unfortunately, after a week of complete rest, it turned out that the wound caused by the open fracture is very severe. The question is; can this still recover or does her leg have to be amputated?
On September 11 we went to the clinic for an appointment with the orthopedist who operated on Nova. Her findings after she has looked and treated the wound: Nova is young, healthy and the body can do wonderful things. She sees, despite the fact that the wound looks severe, an improvement. There is new pink tissue is and connective tissue and scar tissue are already forming in the bones. For the wound to heal, most pins will have to be removed, because the skin cannot recover from something foreign to the body. She wants to wait a bit with this, because the pins that are visible are not yet close to the wound, and in this way she wants to give the bones as much time as possible to become firm.
What is the prognosis? There is a real chance that this can recover. She estimates this at 70%. What does the recovery entail? Nova will have to keep calm for 2-3 months. She may lightly strain the leg for short moments, but not jump or run. The bandages must be changed several times a week. Depending on the skin's recovery, a piece of skin may need to be transplanted to bridge the gap.
To what extent will Nova be able to use the leg again and will it continue to bother her if everything goes well? Unfortunately, that cannot be predicted. There is sensation in the leg and toes, we saw this today. The blood flow is also good. After 2-3 months of rest, the leg will be thinner and have a loss of strength, just like people with a broken leg. The costs are estimated at 4000 euros. This includes consultations, (expensive) bandage changes, new surgery for removing the pins, medication and a skin transplant. This is of course a considerable amount and that is why I ask for your help. If we don't try, you don't know if it has a chance of success.
