NORWACS is a community based organisation that provide a myriad of services to women and children in Northern NSW, Australia. We have been devastated by the horrific rain event in Lismore and surrounding areas.
The photos are of our housing project where upstairs, we provide vulnerable women with a safe place to live. Downstairs we run therapeutic group workshops for women survivors of childhood sexual abuse, health and wellbeing workshop for other at-risk groups of women as well as store our health promotion and outreach resources.
Thankfully our tenants were safely evacuated. However, everything was destroyed and the building so badly damaged it will need to be demolished.
We still have our office, housed in a separate building, which we are turning into a hub that will operate as a safe space for women to drop in, connect with others and gain access to professional support and resources. We are desperate for funds to help us support our community, many of whom have lost everything.
With your help we can continue to provide:
+ Showering facilities
+ Phone, internet and mobile phone charging access
+ Health and hygiene products, including maternity packs
+ Trauma counselling and women’s health nurse services
+ Information and supported referral to other emergency, health and welfare resources
+ Rehousing for our tenants
+ Education and training sessions
+ Therapeutic and professional facilitated group workshops that will be critically needed over the coming months
+ Outreach services and resources to more remote communities
We also hope to find another permanent home from where we can deliver our group programs and activities into the future.
We are so grateful for your support. All donations are tax deductible.
