Help Nolan Heal From AFM

Donation protected
Acute Flaccid Myelitis is a rare neurological disorder which affects the spinal column. This year alone there are 38 documented cases. My newphew Nolan is one of these cases.

Nolan is a vibrant 3 1/2 year old who was diagnosed with AFM in October 2, 2018. Nolan had been complaining of a headache and had been running a temp for a couple of weeks. My sister had taken him in several times each time told he was fine and simply fighting off an internal infection. On October 2 as he ran to his Mom his legs stopped working and he fell. His left arm stopped working instantly and he could no longer lift his head. They rushed him to emergency.

After several MRI ‘s Nolan was diagnosed with AFM. As the days turned into a week this super hero , paw patrol loving boy began to loose hope. He asked his Mom why his body was hurt and why he couldn’t walk or stand up. He cried, “ mommy hold me tighter ! Hold me tighter Mommy!” And when they wanted to find a new port for his IV he cried , “No thank you . Pease. No thank you! No thank you!” Then he sobbed “I’m broken Mommy. I’m broken.”

After 5 days of intensive antibiotics & steroids. Nolan can wiggle the fingers in his left hand , left his legs to the knee, left his head with support, and raise his right arm to his head.  He continues to breathe on his own and can now feel when he has to go to the bathroom .

There is is no cure for AFM. Recovery rates are listed as 1/3 fully recover, 1/3 partially recover & 1/3 do not recover. My sister is a wonderful Mom who is affectionately known as the guacamole lady at the local grocery store where she works. My brother in law is a lovely elementary school teacher.

Nolan is facing a year or more of physical & occupational therapy so he can walk , run and play again. The medical bills are astronomical . Please donate what you can to help this little boy recover. In gratitude , Liz
