Help Nino's Journey of Recovery

Donation protected
Nino Covone, a wonderful man, son, brother, and friend, needs our help and support after suffering a debilitating stroke in his home on December 2, 2017.

Nino, an endlessly cheerful and warm individual, led a normal, healthy, happy life: he worked very hard, had recently bought a home, and was blessed with a great family, and wonderful wife. However, on December 2nd, his life suddenly took a frightening 90 degree turn when our cousin Claudia, his wife, found him in their bathtub in the grips of what appeared to be a massive stroke. Nino was immediately taken to emergency care, where, after assessing his condition, it was confirmed that the stroke had indeed been severe, and he was now faced with a ruptured carotid artery, a blockage, and a blood clot in his brain. Doctors intervened immediately and thankfully, the clot in his brain was successfully removed.  Unfortunately, they could not do anything about the dissection and blockage in his carotid artery.  Nino spent 5 days in the intensive care unit, was transferred to intermediate care, and is currently in a rehabilitation center. Initially, his right side was paralyzed and he completely lost his ability to speak. In a testament of his strength and enduring spirit,  doctors and family were shocked and amazed to see that much of his mobility has returned fairly quickly.  However, his battle is far from over, as he will need continued physiotherapy to gain strength on his right side. His speech, which was the most affected, will require very intensive therapy to get him to a level where he is communicating more fully and effectively. It is undoubtedly incredibly frustrating to know what you would like to say but to be unable to say it. However, he has shown just how strong and determined he is, even with all the physical and emotional hardship that this sudden turn of fortune has brought about.

As a result of his ordeal, he will be out of  work for a long while, and times will be hard as his wife’s health and ability to work has also been affected by the situation. Even though Nino is doing better, he is still at high risk and in 4 weeks another angiogram will determine if the carotid artery is getting better or if there is need for another intervention. I am sure any donation you are willing to provide will be incredibly appreciated by Nino and Claudia. We will be posting updates about his progress as they come. Thank you for reading this and thank you in advance for your support. In love and healing, all the New Jersey cousins
