Nilson and his family arrived in New York from Peru about six months ago with hopes of building a better future. He and his wife are raising three young children- a 7-year-old daughter, a 3-year-old daughter, and an 8-month-old baby boy who was born with chronic atopic dermatitis. With the right medication and diet, his condition is manageable, but without them, his skin becomes severely inflamed, causing pain no child should have to endure.

We met Nilson through The Unframed Arts Collective, a community arts initiative that provides creative space and essential resources to those in need. He is an incredible artist and writer, using his work to express his experiences, struggles, and hopes for the future. However, right now, his priority is simply keeping his family safe and healthy.

Like many asylum seekers, Nilson is caught in a bureaucratic limbo. Due to recent policy changes, his asylum and work authorization process have been delayed, leaving him unable to work and provide for his family. He arrived in the U.S. with the hope of giving his children a better life, but without income, even affording his baby’s critical medication has become impossible.

Nilson has done everything he can to seek help, but his options are limited. That’s why we’re asking for any amount you can spare to help his family through this difficult time. Donations will go directly toward purchasing his baby’s prescriptions and covering basic needs while he continues to navigate the asylum process.
