Help Nik to get back on his feet!

On 20th May this year my life changed in an instant after a motorcross accident and I am currently in rehabilitation, having broken my neck, spine and several ribs. I am currently paralysed from the waist down.
After my accident I spent the first week in intensive care and was treated in hospital for 6 weeks before being transferred to a specialist spinal care unit where I am now learning the basics of how to live an independent life again.
At the moment every day is a struggle and all the things I took for granted, even just getting up in a morning, takes a lot of time and effort; but I am in the best place and am getting excellent care, making good progress from where I was just a few months ago.
In the next month or so I will go home and need to learn all over again how to live  independently. I am raising money for the equipment I need in order to have the best possible shot at recovery, including an FES bike which I hope will help me find my feet again, literally! I remain hopeful and positive about my recovery but need the equipment to be able to continue my rehabilitation.
For those of you that know me, you know how much sport & fitness means to me. I have competed in many triathlons, Ironman competitions and charity bike rides across the Rocky Mountains, Alps,India, Brazil and Tanzania. Whilst I don't know what my future holds and there is no definitive prognosis for my injury, my dream is to be able to run again. It is certainly what I am working towards in my rehab and goal planning - it has always been such a huge part of my life and I can't imagine a life without being able to run. It seems like an impossible task right now but I am focused and determined to get there. The FES bike is my best chance of being able to do this, so I have set up this gofundme page to help raise the funds I need. I will also need to buy a lot of equipment for my day to day life including attachments for my wheelchair so I can get about as easily as possible.
I am currently adapting to life in a wheelchair and all the challenges that brings, having never imagined this to be a part of my life.
I am so grateful for all the love and support I have received from family, friends and all the teams at the hospitals I have been admitted to (Basildon, Queens Romford & Stanmore Spinal Injury Clinic). I could not have got this far without any of their help and encouragement and hope to be able to continue my recovery when I do get to go back home, with all the equipment I need to progress and recover to the best of my ability.
Thank you for your support, it means the world to me.
