Help Nigerian Trans People Access Hormones
This is a fundraiser to help trans people access life changing gender affirming healthcare. QUEST9ja is launching a fundraiser for a trans healthcare fund as part of our mutual aid program. This is dedicated to empowering poor trans Nigerians in need of immediate support.
The Nigerian government has not only completely failed to meet the healthcare needs if Nigerians but queer Nigerians are targeted wherever they try to access trans affirming healthcare. The cost of HRT medication is exorbitant and this is compounded by the queerphobia that exists in Nigeria’s rapidly shrinking labour market.
Trans people face ever increasing levels of uncertainty in Nigeria’s labour market. Going off their HRT not only causes psychological stress but they are exposed to the threat if violence and death.
This trans fund will go towards buying vital hormone therapy medications for at least a dozen trans people for twelve months. This would not only help them establish themselves and move forward with their transition but will also afford them the opportunity to not be forced into life threatening situations as a result of economic violence.
Each beneficiary would get a monthly £150 which is enough to cover estrogen pills, testosterone suppressants and Progesterone, for trans women / trans feminine individuals or testosterone pills/vials for trans men/trans masculine individuals.

The Nigerian government has become more and more tyrannical. It has not only slashed the healthcare budget last year, but has increased police funding and banned Twitter in the country. This ban disproportionately affects queer Nigerians, who rely on online safe spaces and support groups in order to thrive and get help. Now more than ever we need as much help as we can get.
