I need your help paying for a treatment program for trauma.
For those who don't know me, my name is Nicole. I am a case manager, collage artist/poet and lover of music and outdoors. I am also a survivor of complex trauma and struggle with mental health. Since childhood, I have sought an escape from the pain: eating disorders, substance abuse, dysfunctional relationships, overworking, etc. Over the last few years, I have been on a healing journey. I have made difficult but worthwhile changes, including 1.5 years and counting of sobriety.
While I am proud of my progress, healing is not linear. I am currently in a valley. Among my symptoms are: chronic feelings of hopelessness, vivid nightmares, panic attacks, difficulty leaving the house and being around people. I am struggling to care for myself, let alone engage in the activities and relationships that once brought me joy.
As a result, I am taking job-protected leave for up to 12-weeks starting October 1. I will be attending a residential program followed by a local PHP/IOP program. These are in-network programs for complex trauma. Even so, the total cost is $5,809.39 ($2,500 deductible + 30% co-insurance until I meet my out-of-pocket max + $30 intake fee). I am still responsible for rent and other bills during this time. I am in the process of applying for short-term disability to cover my basic living expenses, but it is not guaranteed.
I feel like my back is up against the wall. I am already in several thousand dollars of debt from other medical expenses and car repairs. The programs do not offer a scholarship, nor do others I’ve spoken with. I cannot afford to get help, but I cannot afford not to.
As a case manager, I am usually the one helping vulnerable people find the resources they need to bridge the gap. Now I’m in a position where I need support. Any amount would help. Thank you for your consideration.
