Help Nico Beat Cancer

Donation protected

In July of 2016, at the age of 53, my beautiful mother in law Nico was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer . She hadn’t smoked in 15 years and was as fit as an athlete. An athlete with a slight cough. After the diagnosis a number of options and trials were proposed. All involving chemotherapy. This wasn’t an option for Nico as she felt that her system would not respond well to such harsh drugs. She has always been such a positive person and highly attuned to her own body. She was prepared to trust her instincts on this.

We searched high and low for anything that might be effective at this advanced stage and Nico embarked on a range of natural therapies that at least slowed the tumour growth. 8 months later, noticeably underweight, short of breath, and worried, Nico was tested for the ground-breaking immunotherapy drug Keytruda . Only 1 in 2 people respond to Keytruda so it was a nervous wait for the test results. The results came back POSITIVE. It would work. But at a cost. Keytruda is only funded in Australia if you have first failed to respond to chemotherapy. As Nico had not had chemo, she was refused funding for Keytruda which is very expensive at $6,500 per treatment.

Nico has now completed the first round of 4 treatments and scans show a greater than 50% decrease in tumour size, and she is feeling and looking great. And no side effects. She went from weighing 46 kilograms to 53 currently, she has stopped coughing all together, and she has her energy and joy back. Even her oncologist displayed surprise at the results. She has begun the next round of 4 treatments and is doing extremely well.

Nico is the most kind, selfless, compassionate and amazing woman I know, besides my own mother. She still needs to continue with the Keytruda as the tumour hasn’t disappeared totally yet. She deserves her normal life back again. Her love, her happiness and her health! This "wonder drug" is helping her recover from this deadly disease. This is such an amazing outcome for her but this very costly treatment is placing a great strain on her financially. Nico’s family and I ask if you could please spare anything, however large or small to help her afford her treatment, we would be beyond thankful. We want to see Nico go on to live the life she deserves and allow our family to rid the burden of this terrible disease.

Thankyou.
