My name is Nicholas Naughton and I'm an artist working in Los Angeles, California. I shared a space with 20 other artists in downtown LA called Little Tokyo Arts Complex. I’m launching this fundraiser with a heavy heart and to ask for help because tragically the entire building burned down one night ago. It destroyed everything and the art I have made over the last 20 years is now gone.
I awoke that day with an email that alerted me to this happening and it has completely changed my life. It’s hard to convey the impact this has had but in a sense my life's work was erased in an instant along with my means to make my work also.
The entirety of my art career was in that space including all of the work I made with artists collaboratively at La Cucaracha Press in Kansas City. From my graduate monumental prints to every poster, woodcut, link cut and screen print...it’s all gone. It has been really difficult grappling with how this will impact me, and the loss is so comprehensive: each and every brush, chisel, easel, power tool, my inks, specialized plywood and paper is destroyed. My art book collection is a huge loss because many books are collected and found in the most unlikely places. Many of them aren’t in print anymore.
The loss is devastating and to me it feels like a piece of my soul was lost in that fire. I'm a printmaker, but more broadly a completely creative person, and my heart and soul is attached to the art that I make.
After a heartwarming outpouring of support and kindness from friends, peers, and loved ones, I created this fundraiser so that I can start to rebuild. My goal is to raise funds so that I can work to rebuild my studio, purchase materials that were destroyed, and reclaim the  momentum that has been lost due to this tragic event. It enriches my life to have a  space to make work, and it feels amazing sharing the fruits of that labor with the world. Hopefully with time, I can reassemble a new setup to work, find a new space, and resume my creative path.
I am open to accepting funding in support, and also materials or supplies that relate to Printmaking, Painting, and Sculpture. Thank you so much in advance for helping me through this difficult time.
