Nepali Students to LPC

Four children from rural Nepali villages in Sindupalchowk District have been accepted to Luethi Peterson Camps, international summer camps held in Europe and the United States. While the camps have offered full financial assistance for these 4 children, it puts a huge burden on the organization which is family-run and volunteer-based. They have asked for help fundraising for the children to supplement the funds they are offering. Not only do the children need assistance with the camp tuition, but we also have to help them with many other expenses including, passport and visa fees, gear, travel insurance, and flights to and from the camp site. Please consider supporting these kids! Even a small amount goes a long way!

Here are some examples of the expenses we are anticipating per student:

Camp tuition: $1,300-$1,500
Flight: ~$1,000
Visa fee: ~$200
Passport fee: $100
Sleeping bag: ~$100
Travel insurance for 4 weeks: $60-$200
Hiking backpack: ~$60
Hiking shoes: ~$60
Toiletries: ~$30
Raincoat: ~$25
Water bottle: ~$5
Socks: ~$5

Luethi Peterson Camps is an international organization that was started in 1949. It aims to bring kids from around the world together to share perspectives, languages, and cultures. Natalie Luethi Peterson started the camps in Switzerland 70 years ago and now the camps take place in about 6 European and North American towns every year. The camps are small, usually about 15-30 campers and about 8-10 staff members per site, fostering a very tight knit community and resulting in deep connections that transcend language and culture. The camps focus on simple-living, international-understanding, self-government, and consensus-based decision making. Because the camps are so diverse, one camp could have as many as 20 different languages represented, spoken by both the campers and the staff. Every announcement and remark get translated into all languages present! The camps are generally between 3 and 5 weeks long and held during July and August months. On a daily basis, the campers sing, dance, play sports, craft, cook, have language classes, work together on group projects, and work through community issues by consensus.
