Give SHOT in an arm x2 for Nepal's Everest region

Donation protected
The rural areas of Nepal, especially the Mount Everest/Khumbu region, are particularly vulnerable in the ongoing and evolving COVID-19 pandemic. Given the scarcity of testing, treatment, and vaccine distribution, even well-meaning visitors are potential threats of carrying and spreading this disease to Nepali communities. With this in mind, Mountain Madness has cancelled its Spring 2021 climbs and treks in Nepal- another blow to this hard hit area.

Not being able to show up in person doesn’t mean that we are not showing up in other ways though.

Instead of just standing by, we are acting immediately and YOU can help us reach our target of raising $20,000 to help the people of the Khumbu region overcome health and economic challenges brought by COVID-19. With your help, we will directly support local vaccination efforts and our  Mountain Madness staff in the region so they can feed their families and move forward with dignity.

THE SITUATION IN NEPAL

As an adventure travel company, Mountain Madness takes great care to ensure the health, well-being, and safety of our guests, and also of the people and places we visit. Having worked in the Khumbu region of Nepal for decades, we have deep personal and trusted relationships with many people there - and regard them highly as an important part of the Mountain Madness family. Because of this, our immediate priorities are to limit any additional possibilities of exposure to the at-risk people of the Khumbu region and to provide support in the efforts to test, vaccinate and treat COVID-19.

Together, we are giving back AND paying it forward for a brighter, healthier future!

With Nepal beginning its vaccination campaign on January 20, the timing and urgency of our support is critical. With over 28 million residents in Nepal, the access to testing and vaccines in remote regions will likely take a very long time.  Without a successful effort to combat this virus, the impact on the people of the Khumbu will be devastating.

COVID-19 has already taken a major socio-economic toll on Nepalis through the loss of tourism impacting multiple sectors and the loss of jobs in agriculture, wholesale/retail, and forestry, to name just a few.

But, with YOUR support, we will contribute in a meaningful way – every donation makes a difference.

SHOT #1

To support vaccinations, Mountain Madness is fundraising to provide direct financial support for the following: social mobilization, community outreach, vaccination supplies and equipment, cold chain capabilities, vaccination program staff and training, and other mass vaccination program needs. From our decades of experience, we also know that the most effective and efficient way to support this local project is through existing community-engaged initiatives and not by creating new ones.

Throughout our decades of work in the Khumbu, we have established relationships with efficient and highly competent local networks. We understand and appreciate the complicated logistics and supply chain needed for this particular environment that will see the vaccination program through to the finish line. We can think of no better or more highly skilled logistics and supply experts than the Sherpa of the Khumbu.

While we recognize that a few thousand dollars is but a drop in the bucket of overall need, it is a place to start. We encourage you to join us and donate now. In solidarity, we will reach the goal of improving the situation for the people of Nepal.

Collectively focused efforts can and do make the difference.

SHOT #2

In addition to assisting the vaccination effort, Mountain Madness is donating $100 for each of our Nepal Climbing or Everest Base Camp trip registrants who are postponing their trip with us this spring. This money will be distributed to our Nepali staff to help offset over a month of work they would have otherwise had. We invite you to contribute to this effort, as others have before following the earthquakes in 2015 and spring 2020 when the pandemic first arrived.

These contributions, even the smallest amounts, will help alleviate the hardships placed on staff members and their families. Work in the tourist industry is often the sole source of income for an entire multi-generational family.

THE GOAL

Help us reach our target of $20,000 toward vaccination efforts in Nepal and supporting our Mountain Madness Nepal staff. Final amounts allocated to these two needs will be determined upon conclusion of the fundraising effort.

Thank you for truly making a difference!
