Help Neil Overcome Seizure and Burn Trauma
Donation protected
My son has suffered four seizures in two months.
Not sure why-he has no health insurance, he’s trying to pay off medical bills, trying to get transportation to and from work because he can’t drive until he seizure free for six months. He has a three year-old daughter he’s supporting. We want to look into a seizure dog, but they start at $15,000 and up.
Any amounts will be helpful. If all of my friends donated a dollar to this fund I would have a nice start for him and getting a puppy for his seizures to help make his life a little normal.
Thank you in advance
The below post is from the day that he had his first seizure.
Greetings Tuesday, March 19th-my son drove home with Jesus at the wheel.
Most know that I was a nurse for 25 plus years- trauma, ER, witnessed the worst of the worst.
NOTHING PREPARES YOU FOR WHEN IT IS YOUR CHILD.
Tuesday evening I was settling in on the couch after a long day.
I was worried about my son and a little stressed- earlier in the day he called me from work.
My son spilled boiling water on his legs and feet. I was sure he had 2nd maybe even 3rd degree burns.
He called me from Walmart to ask what he should get for the burns and he was in horrible pain. Of course I wanted him to go to the hospital-he refused.
Anyway- I just purchased a new phone and was in the middle of the transfer when I heard a loud crash- the type of noise that YOU KNOW SOMETHING BAD HAPPENED.
I jump up off the couch and out the front door- it’s dark but down the drive way I see the truck, sideways, in the fence, smoking and I immediately know it’s my son.
I grab a flashlight off the table and run to the truck- I remember screaming the entire way- OH MY GOD MY SON ..NOT MY SON… ..
I am at the truck- doors are locked, I smell gas, truck is smoking and there he is….MY SON slumped over the wheel.
I am screaming the doors are locked and for someone to get the spare key.
I AM PANICKING- smoke…gas… my son…. Unresponsive….
The key is here…. I am in the passenger’s seat …. He is breathing…. What we call agonal breathing in medicine… eyes rolled back…. People trying to open the drivers side door while I am unbuckling my son….. They can’t get the door open because it’s smashed in so bad.
Adrenaline takes over and I kick out the driver side door and pulled my son out of the truck.
A lady is in the driveway on the phone with 911.
She is telling me not to take him out of the truck, not to move him.
I’m in nurse mode now, and being selfish, I’m yelling at her- I’m his Mother and I’m not worried about moving him. He needs CPR.
My son is now laying on the ground
In front of me…. He has a pulse…. I do a sternal rub as I am yelling at him trying to get him to respond.
I yell at my daughter to go get the NARCAN. Knowing he got burnt at work and was in pain I thought maybe somebody gave him something for the pain.
It seemed like eternity… my son is breathing normal…. I don’t realize it at the time but he was coming out of a seizure.
I administered the NARCAN- at the time he was becoming more responsive BUT when you administer Narcan to somebody that’s overdosing, they immediately become alert and orientated, this was not response I was getting.
He was confused-he thought he was 20 years old and in the Walmart parking lot
911 is on the scene and they load him up- take him to the hospital.
He came out of this with a bump on his head and a sore chest from the seat belt The hospital test showed he was VERY DEHYDRATED
and NEGATIVE TOXICOLOGY.
The lady on the phone with 911 was behind my son when he “blew” threw the five way stop up the road about a half a mile from my house. My son went off the road, through a field, down into a ditch-coming out of the ditch sent him air borne, through huge trees, through our fence across our yard- splitting a dogwood tree, missing a huge pine- back through the fence across the driveway where the truck stopped.
Life 360 says his speed was 70 mph.
It was determined He had a seizure while driving.
Thank GOD he was seatbelted
Thank GOD he’s ok
Thank GOD no one else was injured or worse.
Neil needs follow up care related to the seizure and the burn- and has no medical insurance.
Neils vehicle was totaled.
I am asking to give my son a hand up- he works as a sous chef, 60 hours a week. He supports a three year old daughter
Funds would be used towards Medical bills and transportation to work- and trying to secure a seizure dog for him.
Thank you in advance for your support.
