Mimo’s leg surgery and radiotherapy

Donation protected

Our cat Mîmo was born with a congenital disorder known as osteochondrodysplasia. This is a disorder that causes random bone and cartilage growth in certain parts of the body. At first, Mîmo displayed very little symptoms, but from about 3 years ago she began to show small growths on the back of both hind legs. For the last two years she’s been on expensive medication (about ¥14,000/$140 a month), and it helped slow the progression of the disease. However, within the last year Mîmo’s condition has taken a turn for the worse and the growths have gotten so large that she can no longer sit flat on her hind legs. The constant pressure on the growths has caused abrasions to form and they are unable to heal. We’ve tried special bandages, but they don’t last more than a day and they started to make her abrasions smell strange. She’s beginning to have mobility issues and her legs bleed almost everyday from constant contact with the floor.

We’ve been in contact with her vet for the last several months and even upped her medication dosage, but to no avail. It is now clear that the only option to restore a decent quality of life to Mîmo and prevent the disease from making her completely immobile is by getting her surgery. She needs surgery to remove the excess bone growth and radio therapy to ensure that the bone growth doesn’t grow back.

The main problem now is that it’s ¥1,000,000/$10,000USD and our pet insurance won’t cover costs related to chronic illnesses. We have been saving to get her surgery, but we haven’t been able to save enough in time for her surgery.  We cannot delay her surgery for much longer because she risks infection.

I hate asking for money, but Mîmo is my family and we are so close to getting her the surgery she needs. We still need about ¥300,000/$3000 for surgery and radio therapy. I know times are hard for everyone right now, but we would be grateful for any contribution.

NOTE: I would like to mention that although the location is set to Altadena, CA, I currently reside in Tokyo, Japan. I was not able to link my Japanese bank account to gofundme and it wouldn’t allow me to set my location to Japan while using an American bank account. I just wanted to clarify so there wasn’t any confusion.
