She was able to obtain stable and safe housing in an apartment complex for retired and/or disabled folks this year. While this has been a wonderful thing, she has become too disabled to work over the past few years. She cannot drive (and has no car either). As a result, she cannot travel from her apartment and relies on grocery deliveries for all of her food. In addition, previously expanded SNAP benefits ended this spring Less SNAP assistance coupled with high inflation costs mean most of her money goes to food. She regularly forgoes purchasing medicine to afford food and even then she is often food insecure, sometimes going days with nothing to eat. She is also dealing with past medical bills. She has no one currently to help her.
