Dax the cat needs major surgery

Update:

Dax had her surgery on Friday, 6/28. They found a large cystic piece of ovary as well as a fluid-filled piece of uterus. The surgery went well, we are so happy with her care at UF, and now she is home resting and cuddling.

The final cost ended up being less than predicted, but still pretty substantial. It includes an ultrasound, hospitalization for 2.5 days, multiple exams, the surgery itself, and the testing on the structures they found inside her.




I met Dax when she was only 4 or 5 weeks old. She was thrown out of a car in front of me and was so small I could fit her in one hand.

When she was 6 months old, she was spayed. A little under a year after her surgery, she started to go into heat on a regular basis. She has even had an infection in her reproductive tract.

We have taken her to many veterinarians for second and third and fourth opinions.

Recently we were referred to the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital. Most of her veterinarians agree that she likely has ovarian remnants (meaning the doctor who did her spay screwed up, though they refuse to help get her treatment), or ovarian tissue that grew in an unusual spot before she was born.

Having those ovarian remnants in her body not only put her through heat on a regular basis (which is so difficult) but she is also at a greater risk for a number of other health issues.

Dax will have her surgery on Friday, June 28th. I will not know the details of timing and cost until the day before, however prices I have heard for such a surgery range between $2k-$4k.

We do not have this money available, and would love any help at all in getting her the treatment she needs. I will continue to update once I have final costs.
