Help Naomi survive capitalism and cancer

Donation protected
Naomi lives her life as a nutty-ass glamourpuss among mere mortals, a lusty wanderer boasting  30 countries on her bucket list who could literally fight and best any challengers with a sword which was literally on fire. 7 years ago, Naomi was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer, a neuroendocrine tumor on the head of her pancreas almost the size of a softball. After doing 18 courses of oral chemo drugs and a course of radiation, a modest amount of success was reached in shrinking it some and getting it under control, she received monthly injections meant to continue to keep it under control. One of the few advantages of this type of tumor is that they tend to grow extremely slowly and she was pronounced to be able to have a normal life expectancy. Day to day life returned to a sense of normalcy and her illness was relatively asymptomatic, so she was able to pursue and accomplish goals like her to dream of moving to New York City. In late summer of 2018, she began having new and unusual stomach pain and digestive issues. She initially wrote it off as side effects from previous treatment and a previous gallbladder removal surgery. Over time, the issues got worse and worse to the point that she could barely eat. Over a period of months, she lost 30-40 lbs that her body didn't have to spare and grew malnourished. She had to go to the ER several times and was inpatient for days at a time. Soon she could not keep food down at all. The answer eventually was found: her tumor had started growing for the first time since her diagnosis and was pressing against her digestive system, preventing her from being able to properly digest food. She had major surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan on March 25th 2019 in order to re-route her digestive tract away from the tumor and was on bedrest and out of work for a total of 8 weeks afterward.   Recovery was more difficult than expected and the tumor ended up applying enough pressure to her liver that her now-101 lbs frame had to support a great deal of abdominal swelling from a condition called ascites. The only thing right now that ultimately reduces the painful weight and pressure is a drainage procedure done at the hospital that takes several hours and must be repeated periodically. Malnutrition and muscle loss from bedrest combined with the ascites resulted in crippling leg pain that sometimes impeded her ability to walk entirely and she must still use a cane to get around at times. She has yet to be able to regain healthy weight or muscle. Naomi has since transferred her care to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, one of the best cancer treatment centers in the world. Her wonderful new doctor has confirmed that she will now have to pursue IV chemo treatment every 2 weeks because her disease is now more aggressive and potentially life threatening. She can no longer count on a prognosis that anticipates a typical life span, but they can try to shrink the tumor with chemo and other treatments to keep this inoperable mass under control. While her day job previously did not not penalize her for times when she needed to attend medical appointments, they have now informed her that despite her status as a salaried employee, her paycheck will be docked for any time missed from the office. Naomi has already applied every minute of her paid time off during her FMLA leave after surgery to try to stay financially afloat during that time. Even though her chemo treatments will be on Saturdays, she will inevitably have medical treatments and appointments from time to time that must fall during normal business hours, resulting in an addition to her existing financial hardships. Although she's got mixed emotions about accepting help, she needs it right now if she will be able to keep her head above water and be able to fight for her life with everything she's got. She is doing her best to maintain a normal amount of self-care on her own while still working full-time and taking freelance gigs on the side whenever she can manage. Any and all kind donations will be used to bridge gaps created in her income due to her need to attend her necessary appointments with her oncologist, periodic scans to track the progress of treatment, consults with her hospital's nutritionist to help her gain back much-needed weight and correct the anemia and nutritional deficiencies she's developed, and appointments with an MSK therapeutic professional to help cope with the mental and emotional effects that come with this type of experience. As treatment shrinks the tumor and relieves the pressure on her liver, the ascites will improve and eventually go away. Until then, though, she also must adhere to a restricted diet that has caused her food costs to go up considerably. She is also striving to catch up on overdue bills she couldn't pay during her partially unpaid medical leave, as well as out-of-pocket medical bills from her extensive hospital care prior to hitting the yearly patient responsibility maximum on her insurance plan.   Some fun rewards are available for those who feel moved to donate, but even if donating is not an option, please consider sharing and spreading this GoFundMe campaign. Her gratitude to all who supported the idea of a fundraiser is overwhelming. Thank you.
