Help Iya Mystique's Journey to Become a Midwife

Hi Everyone!

 

Some exciting news: I am now in my journey as a Black student midwife at the FIRST and ONLY accredited Black midwifery school, Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery!

 

*inserts happy dance*

 

Now I need your help!

 

I am currently working on raising funds to support my student midwifery journey (becoming a midwife is NOT cheap at all and has various barriers such as financial strains, racism, anti-Blackness, oppression, ableism, classism, discrimination...the list goes on and on). I need funding to assist with educational materials such as midwifery textbooks, supplies, gas (for traveling to attend births, conferences, and skills workshops/training), travel for in-person skills workshops, etc.

 

This has been a dream of mine to step up in this birth work that I do and this calling has been very loud that I finally decided to stare fear in the eyes and say, "Let's go! Let's do this!" I'm no longer running away from what has been aligned for me to do.

 

Representation is super important in this work. As a Black and Brown queer student midwife, there are not a lot of us in this work who hold true to our cultural traditions of birth work and healing. My mission is to create a radical way of healing in midwifery care because my Egun (ancestors) have laid the path down for me and I'm ready to take this journey on!
