My son’s recovery
 
 
 On August 17, my 16-year-old son was shot twice while walking to a school function. He was running for his life when two bullets struck his left arm. By the grace of God, he survived, but this nightmare has left him with nerve damage and bullet fragments that still remain in his body. He had to be airlifted by helicopter for emergency medical care, and at the time, he did not have active health insurance. My employer-sponsored insurance does not begin until next month, so I am now facing the overwhelming burden of his emergency medical bills, helicopter transport, and the care he will continue to need as he heals. 
 
 
 I am creating this fundraiser because my son still has a long road ahead. The funds raised will help cover his ongoing physical therapy, mental health care, follow-up appointments, transportation to and from care, and some of the income I will lose while missing work to care for him and attend court proceedings as his case moves forward. Asking for help is not easy for me. I am a mother who is used to working hard and figuring things out for my children, but right now my son’s recovery has to come first.
