Help my sister-in-law, Zola Fight Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Zola is not just my sister-in-law, she is also my best friend.  We used to live together in London before she moved back to Mongolia with my brother Sam where they got married and have the most amazing 8-year-old daughter, Bujin.

She is the most selfless, calm, beautiful person I know.  She is a loving Mum, an inspiring teacher and a devoted wife to my brother.

Four years ago, Zola went to see her doctor in Mongolia, she felt a lump and the doctor told her it was nothing to worry about.  The lump grew.  A year later she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

In the first months after the diagnosis, Zola had chemotherapy and took the incredibly difficult and very brave decision to remove one of her breasts.  After 6 months there was cause for optimism as the cancer was in remission.

Due to her experience and the lack of support available to others in a similar situation in Ulaanbaatar, Zola set up a charitable organization, Yagaan Tuuz Sah (Pink Ribbon Fund) to help support women there with breast cancer.

Following regular checks, sad news came 6 months ago - the cancer has metastasized and found its way to her collarbone and neck.  Further Chemo has not prevented it from spreading.

Her left hand has become numb.  She has become dependent on strong pain killers and due to the location of the cancer the doctors in Mongolia cannot operate.

The cancer is taking its toll on Sam and Zola financially too.  The Mongolian state medical service (the Health Insurance Fund) will no longer provide help to Zola.

Zola and Sam are researching other options to help treat her, but they are very expensive and hard to find in Mongolia.  Those treatments include Herceptin and other targeted drugs and treatments.  Additionally, Zola needs CT, MRI and PET/CT scans and other tests which the Mongolian Health Insurance Fund now refuses to assist with.  In Mongolia there are no clinical trials available and the most advanced technologies are not available.

Zola and Sam are incredibly proud, reliable and generous.  They would be the last to ask for help but the first to help anyone else.

It’s important the family never lose hope – Zola wants desperately to help others and live to see her daughter Bujin grow up.

Please support her in any way you can.
