Help my sister fight lung cancer

Donation protected
This GoFundMe Account is for my sister, Jennifer Owens, whoat only 41 years old, a single mom, and someone who never smoked, was very unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in November of 2017.  She is now facing a terrible cancer with the lowest survival rate.

One Saturday morning Jennifer experienced severe pain in her side, to the point that she had her son Bristol take her to the ER.  The X-Rays and Scans at the hospital showed definite signs of lung cancer.  Then the medical merry-go-round began.  From local oncologists, to out of town regional lung cancer oncology specialists, to pain management doctors, to oncology radiologists, and the many trips to the labs, the bills began to hit her meager means to deal with it all.

So not only was Jennifer dealing with a life threatening disease, but she was soon overwhelmed with doctor bills, hospital bills, laboratory bills, and occasional ambulance bills.  From a timing standpoint, this couldn’t have hit her at a worse time.  She had just started a new office job the beginning of November 2017, so she didn’t yet have medical insurance available to her throughthe company.

She did have Obama Care, but she hadn’t begun to satisfy any of her annual deductible, as she had always been very healthy up until now.  So between November and December, she had to satisfy a $6,000 annual deductible.  Then when January came, she was faced with having to pay another $6,000 annual deductible toward her Obama Care coverage before her company plan took effect in March.  Once again, with this new insurance in March, she had to pay yet another $6,000 for that plan.  Besides the now $18,000 she was facing to pay for just these three annual deductibles, she was riddled with high co-pays everywhere she went as well.

She is still trying to work when she physically can get herself to her office.  But there are many days, and even weeks, when her pain and numerous hospital stays, keep her from her job. Just this July alone, Jennifer was in the ER several times, resulting in four actual hospital admissions. Fortunately, her employer has a huge heart, and has been very understanding to her time off, but she has had to cut her hours significantly.

Not only has Jennifer always had a strong work ethic, but her son Bristol is likewise the same.  That being said, Jennifer’s career has never had a high paying job, mostly as an office worker, and Bristol’s part time job at Wal-Mart doesn’t begin to cover his expenses at the local university.   Consequently, they don’t have any significant savings to fall back on, to pay for all these mounting bills.

On top of all that, Bristol broke his right foot this September during a Frisbee game with a campus ministry group.  His insurance deductible has not been met either, so all of his costly bills are now out of pocket as well.  He has been unable to drive himself anywhere for the last several weeks, or work with his foot in a cast.

Please consider a financial gift to help Jennifer during this very difficult time in her life.  She can’t bear the thought of losing her home, or Bristol not having the finances to finish his college degree.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for your heartfelt consideration and prayers for my sister Jennifer.  Feel free to share this on all social media sites.  You can sign up for updates on GoFundMe, and Jennifer will post her progress.
