My family is reaching out for urgent support to help my parents secure safe housing during an incredibly difficult time. My dad is older and the sole provider for his household, supporting my mom and her disabled son, who currently has no income. Despite his age, my dad has continued working so hard just to keep a roof over their heads. For the past six months, they have been trying to sell their home to avoid financial hardship. Unfortunately, the process has stalled, the real estate agent has gone silent and they have not received the support or traction they needed to secure a buyer in time. Now, they are facing eviction from the land contract holder of their home.

The situation stems from a land contract agreement that has put my dad in a deeply vulnerable position. The land contract owner inserted himself into paying property taxes—even when they were not due—and later demanded repayment. This led to legal action, where my dad felt pressured into signing an agreement to avoid eviction at that time. They were denied legal aid from several state agencies and was left to deal with that situation without a lawyer. Under that new agreement, he has been paying extra each month to pay back the land contract owner the property tax on top of his mortgage. He has done everything he can to stay compliant. Despite this, the land contract owner is now claiming that my dad missed a payment and has issued an eviction notice. We are deeply concerned because we’ve learned this may not be an isolated situation. The land contract owner reportedly holds multiple properties in under similar contracts, where families are put in difficult positions and risk losing their homes.

If my parents are evicted, all three members of their household will be displaced. We are raising funds to cover emergency moving costs, secure safe and stable housing, obtain legal support to explore whether this eviction can be challenged, and provide basic living support during this transition. My parents have worked their entire lives to build stability, and they deserve dignity, safety, and peace—not displacement at this stage in their lives.
