Hi everyone,
My name is Poppy, and I’m writing this because my mum urgently needs help, and I’m scared of what will happen if she doesn’t get the right support. Our lives completely changed in October, and my mum has been falling apart ever since.
In October, my mum went on a holiday with her partner, Pierre, someone incredibly important to her. It was his first time ever leaving Australia, and they had spent months planning the trip. They were excited, hopeful, and looking forward to making memories together. But while they were overseas, Pierre passed away unexpectedly.
She had to deal with the shock and trauma of his death completely on her own, in another country, far away from family. She had to handle everything, the calls, the authorities, the aftermath, with no support system around her. The emotional trauma from that experience has changed her life.
When she returned home, she was not the same. She has been struggling deeply with grief, trauma, and her mental health. She hasn’t been able to work. She barely copes day-to-day. There have been moments where it has been unsafe for her to be alone. She has needed psychiatric care and ongoing support just to stay stable.
We were told the Victim of Crimes Program in Washington would help cover the costs related to what she went through overseas. We relied on that promise. But now they are refusing to cover even half of what she needs, leaving her with enormous expenses at a time when she is completely unable to work or look after herself.
Then, not long after returning home, her car was stolen. Because her mental health has been so bad since October, she had fallen behind on things like insurance. So now it’s a total loss, no car, no transport, no way for her to get to appointments or even manage basic daily tasks without someone helping her.
Right now, it’s me, my two little sisters, and my nan trying to support her. We’re doing everything we can, but we can’t keep up. The cost of treatment, medication, appointments, daily living expenses, transport, and everything she needs to even start recovering is far more than we can manage alone. We are exhausted and terrified of where this could end if she doesn’t get proper help.
My mum is one of the most loving, generous people. She has always gone out of her way for others, even when she was struggling herself. She does not deserve the pain she is carrying. She has been traumatised, overwhelmed, and left without the support she was promised.
I am begging, truly beggin, for help. Even a small donation would mean so much. It would go directly towards her care, her therapy, medication, transport, and helping give her some stability so she can start to rebuild her life after everything she’s been through. And if you can’t donate, sharing this would help more than you know.
Thank you for reading this.
Poppy
