<div>This Mother's Day, I'm fundraising to help my mom secure stable housing. My mom is approaching retirement age, and multiple unfortunate circumstances have left her in a precarious financial situation. All funds raised will go directly towards living expenses, pet care, and housing costs. My mom is never one to ask for help, but I can't think of anyone more deserving.

<div>My mom has always been there for me — and for everyone else. As a massage therapist of over twenty years, she has healed hundreds of people by helping them live life without pain and aiding their recovery from serious injuries. My mom also suffers from arthritis in her hands. Due to the nature of her work, there is only so long she can continue massage without injuring her hands, and looking for other jobs has not been successful for her so far.

<div>Recent costs are adding up: She just had to replace the radiator in her car, which she relies on for a roughly four-hour commute each day to and from work. Her elderly dog, Goober, injured himself and required emergency medical care, and he still isn’t fully recovered. And early this year, many of her personal accounts were hacked, affecting her business and her personal life and causing significant stress. Although she has the support of close friends and family, she does not have the funds to rent or own her own home — not without help.

<div>Even in difficult times, my mom is a beacon of lighthearted humor. She sends her loved ones exploding birthday cards and makes intricate stained glass art for friends and family. As my Girl Scout troop leader, she taught dozens of girls to explore nature without fear and taught us how to not care about other people’s judgement. She’s always embraced and supported me, no matter how life changes: she took me to my first Pride parade, took care of me after top surgery, and currently helps other families support their transgender children.

<div>During my teen years she often put my future and well-being ahead of her own, like so many mothers do. Now, I want to support her too.

<div>We're a small family. I’m an only child, and I expect to support my mom throughout her retirement age while also taking care of my own financial needs. My goal is to raise $15,000 to cover initial housing expenses such as moving, furnishing her new home, security deposit, rent, general cost of living expenses, pet medical bills, and to provide a cushion of savings as she nears retirement. Every dollar raised will help tremendously, to ensure she begins her retirement in stable housing, and for my own peace of mind.
