<div>When my daughter Bree was born, my mom came and stayed with me for ten days. I was a terrified first-time parent, convinced something was wrong with my baby. We rushed to the doctor without a diaper bag, without anything. My mom didn’t flinch—she ran to the store for diapers and wipes, handled everything, and reminded me that we were going to be okay. That’s who she is. She’s the calm in our storm, the one who holds us together when everything feels like it’s falling apart.

<div>We don’t yet know what the road ahead will look like—whether it’s surgery, treatment, or long-term care—but we do know it will be expensive.
