<div>On the early morning of September 26th, my mom was rushed to the hospital by my husband after waking in excruciating pain. That same day, she was transferred to a larger hospital where she was diagnosed with meningitis. Very quickly, the situation became critical. She was moved again for specialized care, and it was discovered she had bacterial meningitis, which rapidly spread through her body and led to sepsis.

<div>For several days, the infection completely overtook her body. She fought for her life in the ICU at Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC), where a team of doctors and nurses worked around the clock to stabilize her and pull her through. Thanks to their dedication, and her strength, she survived this terrifying fight.

<div>Today, she is still hospitalized in Orlando, continuing the long road to recovery. She is working to regain her strength and mobility, heal from confusion and memory loss, and manage bleeding, swelling, and fluid around her brain. Each day is a new challenge, but she is determined to get back to health.

<div>My mom has no health insurance. As an ER nurse, she has dedicated her life to caring for others, including traveling across the country during COVID to help hospitals in need. Currently, she works per diem at Sebastian ER, but her illness has left her unable to work, and recovery will take time.

<div>She is a hard worker, healthy, and full of life. She loves spending time with her grandkids; cheering them on at sports games, taking the little ones to parks, the zoo, and even Chick-fil-A for their favorite treats. Nursing is her calling, and she has spent years helping others in their hardest moments. Now, she needs help in hers.
