Earlier this month, my little brother David spent nearly a week in the ICU as doctors worked to bring him back from the edge of a diabetic coma. Doctors told us that he wouldn't have made it, had he been brought in even an hour or two later. We are very lucky that he was able to receive the care he needed immediately to save his life.
Now that he's out of the hospital, however, he's struggling under the weight of massive medical debt, a week’s worth of lost wages, and the astronomical cost of insulin and other diabetes meds in the United States. Just one month’s supply of his life-sustaining meds is more than $500, and like many Americans raising children paycheck-to-paycheck, he cannot afford it.
I literally cannot imagine life without my little brother, who has been my sidekick, partner-in-crime and very first best friend our whole lives. More importantly, his children and wife cannot imagine life without him. I am hopeful that there will come a day when the United States makes insulin affordable for everyone, regardless of their income, but until that day comes, we need your help to get David the insulin he needs to stay alive.
Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give,
Kendall
