Help My Friend Scotty beat Cancer

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

People always say, “At least you have your health”. Unfortunately, for my friend Scotty, this is no longer true. He has been sick for the past 5 years, and he has recently divulged his dire situation to me.

I have known Scotty for over 45 years. He is a lover of life and he deeply appreciates what a gift it is to be alive every single day. He loves being around people and he enjoys entertaining his friends by  playing guitar, singing, and drumming out rhythms on the bongo drums. With his great sense of humor, he is always quick to tell a “one liner” to lighten up the conversation.  These days however, Scotty has found that life has become much more difficult - he has many new challenges to face.

Scotty is a senior citizen, and last year was diagnosed with stage 3 lymphoma cancer. He’s already gone through three rounds of chemotherapy. Within that time he has also had major stomach surgeries for diverticulitis and an intestinal fistula. Also he suffers from chronic prostatitis and is frequently required to use a catheter.

Additionally, he is blind in one eye due to severe cataracts, and the other eye is almost as bad. His vision is so deteriorated that he can only drive in his immediate neighborhood.  He is finding it increasingly difficult to visit his 3 beautiful grandchildren that he loves  so much.  He is in desperate need of laser surgery to bring back his eyesight.

Scotty’s store, Teddy Bear Furniture of Davie, FL, a used furniture and collectibles establishment which had been in business for over 20 years and was considered a neighborhood treasure, had suffered so much of a downturn due to his illnesses and hospitalizations, that he was forced to close the store on October 15 of last year. His store was his only major source of income.

The amount that Scotty receives from Social Security has been just enough to cover his current rent, but not all of his living expenses and medical expenses. His Medicare coverage falls far short of paying for his cancer treatments and other medical bills.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that he also needs a new place to live, since the owner of the condo that he has been subletting needs to sell the apartment.

Scotty needs $3,550 for laser cataract surgery in both eyes -  which is not covered by Medicare, (the operations are scheduled for February),  $2,000 for moving expenses, and $10,000 for his ongoing cancer and prostate treatments. Plus he has $5,000 in outstanding medical and hospital bills.

Anything you can send will be greatly appreciated by Scotty.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Update 01/27/19: Please note that the the original organizer of the campaign, Stuart Taubel is no longer managing Scotty's campaign. It is now being  managed by Frank Brown.
