<div>My name is Mohammad Hosni Abu Jayyab, a 32-year-old Medical Imaging graduate from Gaza and a father of two, with a third baby on the way this month. Before the war, I dreamed of securing  a dignified life for my children. I made the hard choice to sell my wife’s gold to invest everything we owned into a new company. Tragically, our grand opening was set for October 7, 2023. The war erupted, and my shop turned into ashes before it could even open its doors.

<div>أنا محمد حسني أبو جياب، عمري 32 عاماً، خريج تصوير طبي من غزة وأب لطفلين، وينتظر طفلنا الثالث ولادته هذا الشهر. قبل الحرب، حلمت بتأمين حياة كريمة لأطفالي، وبعت ذهب زوجتي لأستثمر كل ما نملك في مشروعي الحلم: مكتبة ألعاب وقرطاسية. كان الافتتاح مقرراً في 7 أكتوبر، لكن الحرب اندلعت وتحول حلمي إلى رماد قبل أن يفتح أبوابه.

<div>​To keep my family alive, I have worked every harsh job imaginable during the war—selling used clothes, firewood, and basic goods. When intense bombing reached Khan Younis, we couldn’t afford to flee. One terrifying day, my nephew was shot in the shoulder by a quadcopter. Without thinking, I carried him on my back and ran through sniper fire and bombs to the hospital. On my way back to protect the rest of my family, a sniper shot me directly in the chest, just 5cm away from my heart. Bleeding heavily, terror pushed me to run back to the hospital alone. Miraculously, I survived, but the chronic pain remains with me to this day.

<div>لكي أبقي عائلتي على قيد الحياة، اشتغلت في كل المهن القاسية خلال الحرب؛ بعت ملابس مستخدمة، وحطب، وأغراضاً بسيطة. وعندما وصل القصف لخان يونس، لم نملك تكاليف النزوح. وفي يوم مرعب، أصيب ابن أخي برصاص كواد كابتر في كتفه، وحملته بلا تفكير على ظهري راكضاً بين الرصاص والقذائف للمستشفى. وأنا في طريقي للعودة لحماية عائلتي، أطلق قناص النار عليّ وأصبت في صدري على بعد 5 سم فقط من قلبي. نزفت وركضت وحيداً مرعوباً للمستشفى، وبأعجوبة نجوت، لكن آلام الإصابة المزمنة تلازمني حتى اليوم.

<div>After a month in the hospital, we were forced to evacuate to Al-Mawasi, then to Shakoush in Rafah, living in a tent for three months. Soon after, our rented home was completely destroyed. As catastrophic famine struck, I had to risk my life daily just to find food for my children and elderly parents. While trying to secure aid, I was shot a second time, this time in my left knee. Now, carrying two painful injuries, my body can no longer handle hard physical labor, leaving me with absolutely no source of income.

<div>بعد شهر في المستشفى، أُجبرنا على الإخلاء إلى المواصي ثم إلى الشاكوس في رفح، وعشنا في خيمة لثلاثة أشهر. بعدها بفترة قصيرة، دُمر منزلنا المستأجر بالكامل. ومع اشتداد المجاعة، كنت أخاطر بحياتي يومياً لأجد طعاماً لأطفالي ووالديّ المسنين. وأثناء محاولتي للحصول على المساعدات، أُصبت للمرة الثانية برصاصة في ركبتي اليسرى. الآن، وأنا أحمل إصابتين مؤلمتين، لم يعد جسدي يتحمل العمل الشاق، مما تركني بلا أي مصدر دخل.
