Help My Dad In A Coma: Growing Medical Bill
Donation protected
Prior to being adopted at the age of twelve, I was raised by my foster family in China for eight years, primarily my foster dad, Dai ShouGen. In Chinese, "gen" means "root". He was and is the root of my ever so strong Chinese identity. He was not only a father figure, but a teacher, mentor and a hero to me. My dad, 68 years of age, always stood as the pillar of our family, devoted those eight years to raising me as his own and nurtured me with education, loved me unconditionally, and instilled core values in me that continue to strength my character to this day.
Fate would not show kindness to him, unfortunately, as he was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2022. About a year and half into treatment, he had a stroke in his brain stem on August 21st 2024. Emergency surgery was performed that same day and he has not awoken since then. It has been five months and counting since being in a coma. He also struggles with pre-existing conditions of High Blood Pressure and Type I Diabetes. Years of medical expenses has accumulated to over $100,000 and is continuing to grow as my dad remains unresponsive with feeding tube under hospice care. My foster mom visits and stays with him every day while their 13-year-old granddaughter, who lives with them and has been raised by them since birth, has had to become much more independent with her studies and daily routines.
It feels so strange to refer to them as my foster family to others because I simply know them as my Chinese family from my motherland. Although It has been almost 16 years since living together under the same roof, my gratitude and love for them remains unbreakable. In their time of need, creating this digital fundraiser is how I can best help them from so far across the world. With your kindness and generosity, we can unite together to help relieve the financial burdens for my Chinese family.
