I don’t usually share things like this, and I’ll be honest—it’s hard and a little embarrassing for me to ask for help. But as I head into 2026, I can’t stay silent. I don’t want to look back one day and feel that I didn’t do everything I could for someone who means the world to me—my dad. He has been battling myositis for 12 years, a rare and incurable disease that has slowly taken his muscle and independence. He was once full of life—playing football, baseball, and wrestling in high school, swimming with us, playing outside, hosting barbecues, and telling stories with so much pride. Now, even the smallest tasks, like standing, walking a few steps, or using the restroom, require two people and specialized equipment—equipment that is not covered by insurance and far beyond what we can afford. I may have to get a full-time nurse to care for him, as well. I know I can’t bring back the dad he once was, and that pain is something I carry every day. But I can try. I can fight to give him dignity, independence, and a better quality of life. I’m asking for help—not out of shame, but out of love, hope, and the desire to do everything I can for him.
