He’s always struggled with his mental health and unfortunately never got the opportunity to find the right help. Sadly, he turned to alcohol and weed for coping, but he is now stuck in a toxic cycle.

<div>I have found a private rehabilitation program in Ontario that can provide therapy, build healthy coping mechanisms, and give him the tools to recover and maintain a healthy lifestyle. For a month of treatment, the starting cost is $15,000. Truthfully, I cannot afford this. This is my brother’s last resort and last hope. He does not see any hope, he is having harmful thoughts, and is heading down a dark dangerous path, which is why I am extremely desperate to get him some help.

<div>Public mental health programs and substance use rehabilitation programs have long waiting lists and rigid criteria. Even the hospital would not admit him because he did not meet their specific criteria, and they left him with no help. We have exhausted all resources trying to get him into a government funded program but have had no luck. His only choice is to go to a private facility and pay out of pocket to get real, structured, medical help.

<div>We were ridiculed by our family doctor for bringing up mental health issues and ended up being abandoned without referral or transfer to another doctor. My brother is currently on a waiting list to be seen by a psychiatrist but we’ve waited for months and have not heard anything. The ‘traditional’ system has failed him. He needs help. He deserves help.
