Eventually, he got a part-time city job, but it was far from fair. He was overworked, underpaid, and constantly taken advantage of — doing dangerous tasks with no training, using his own vehicle to plow snow, and never getting proper support. Even when his housing was condemned, he was offered another rundown trailer — at a higher rent — only if he repaired it himself for free. This past May, the man who exploited him retired. Instead of a promotion, David was told he wasn’t qualified and was asked to train the new guy. When he spoke up, he was met with insults — and even had a gun flashed at him by a city official. Humiliated and broken, he quit. Now he’s stuck in a tiny town with no job, no food, a failing car, and nowhere to go.
